Recreation programming for older adults in Orillia and surrounding areas
Positions Available
Volunteers especially needed for Wednesdays – All Day 9am-11am (break) and then 1:00 – 3:30pm; Thursdays twice per month for our Birthday Socials and Special Events; and also needed for Fridays 1:00-4:00 pm to help with the Shuffleboard Program – see below. Assist with set-up and clean-up of equipment before and after programs; Some light lifting of equipment and supplies; To be a positive role model to program participants; To be familiar with the City of Orillia policies and procedures & emergency protocols; To seek clarification/guidance from Program Coordinator-Seniors; Act in a professional manner and arrive on time; Passionate/Knowledgeable about working with the senior population; Must possess a Vulnerable sector check that is up to date.
Shuffleboard Volunteer: – setting up equipment (score boards, discs, applying wax) – passing out sticks indicating location of player – reminding members to sign-in – assisting seniors at play members when needed (if they require more wax, or need another cue etc) – clean-up – placing all equipment back in the storage room – keeping track of members that get a white stick ( when too many members show up) as the program is a drop-in basis – learning the rules of the games and making judgements on certain situations.
Event Volunteer – Assisting with serving meals, placing plates, cutlery and drinks on tables – Set up and clean up of equipment – Enjoy having conversations with senior members.
